Business Wildcard SSL allows you to secure an unlimited number of subdomains on a single certificate. It’s a great solution for anyone who hosts or manages multiple sites or pages that exist on the same domain. The one-time cost of the certificate covers you for additional subdomains you may add in the future.
Unlike a standard SSL Certificate that is issued to a single Fully Qualified Domain Name only, e.g. www.yourdomain.com, which means it can only be used to secure the exact domain to which it has been issued, a Wildcard SSL Certificate is issued to *.yourdomain.com, where the asterisk represents all possible subdomains such as:
Business Wildcard SSL certificates are 128-256 bit server certificates compatible with 99% of all servers such as Apache, IIS, Exchange, Lync, Nginx and Lotus Domino including all known browsers in use today such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and IE/Edge.
Before a Business Wildcard SSL certificate is issued, we'll need to complete a number of automated security checks, as well as a manual vetting of your domain name, which we'll verify against a number of international company databases.
You can read more about the vetting process and the security checks we perform in our FAQs.
